When Samitra Was Sick
Samitra continues to struggle with staying healthy. There is no indication of full recovery. He still requires time and frequently visits the hospital to ensure he can get back in shape. Samitra was hospitalized for seven days. He received numerous medications, injections into his body, and extra oxygen to assist him in breathing. The young child was struggling with pain.
Three weeks ago, Samitra begged to be led to the bathroom as he awoke in the quiet of the early morning. When his pee slid, he immediately experienced discomfort and severe bleeding. His bladder felt like it was being squeezed—that hurt.
Samitra typically goes to school in the early morning hours, but this time we accompanied him to the clinic for a checkup. He was unable to return home as a result. He must be taken to the hospital. He is struggling with genital pain. However, he also needs to have many injections. His body started to run a fever at night, making it difficult for him to fall asleep. Not to mention that he had to urinate without being notified to go to the restroom. He was made to put on diapers once more to prevent the mattress from becoming wet and smelling urine.
For four days, Samitra was hospitalized. After discussing with the doctor who treated him, she concluded that Samitra had to be circumcised to prevent the same pain from recurring. In two weeks, we will take Samitra to Jogja for a circumcision.
Samitra suffered a fever once more on Sunday morning a week after leaving the clinic. He could only fuss all day long without wanting to eat because of his nasty cough. The fever persisted all day long. At 10 pm approached, Samitra’s body started shaking uncontrollably. He was shaking and biting his tongue so forcefully that a spoon was used to keep him up so he wouldn’t bite and bleed. He warmed up to a temperature of 42 degrees. Everyone is in fear. Samitra stopped responding to the voice. His body was unable to move.
We took Samitra to the clinic. He needed medical help. After being treated by a doctor, Samitra’s consciousness returned. He groaned, and his chest tightened. He struggled to get an injection to reduce his fever.
The next day, the clinic did not have complete medical equipment to help Samitra. For proper care, Samitra needed to be taken to the hospital. Samitra had already been transferred to the hospital by midday. His left and right lungs had fluid, according to a CT scan. His fever was not as high as last night, but it made breathing difficult and made his chest tight.
As a parent, this was the worst experience accompanying Samitra when he was sick. However, the current issue on TV and social media extensively deployed regarding chronic kidney disease in children, which causes death. One of the syrup drugs announced by the Ministry of Health containing Ethylene Glycol is available in the medicine box at home. If Samitra has a fever, he often consumes it, hoping not kidney failure.
In this situation, parents like us must be compact and eliminate the ego. Fortunately, I could control my emotions when Ibuk Samitra was under stress because our son had not recovered yet. I was able to support her with various things that could lighten her burden. She was the one who was totally in the hospital to make sure Samitra remained under close supervision.
